I am a poet,  the writer of touching passages that reflect the challenges, struggles, and joys of our lives. One doesn’t train to become a poet. Life’s hard knocks can turn them into one, where experiences of heartache, poverty, and loss — and family, love, and hope — rise out from within and make their way through my veins into the ink on a page. My poems not only record moments of my life, but they reflect what many others feel.

I’ve not the brush to stroke
the walls, nor the dream to
add to this summer’s scene.
Others have left their sketch
of sand, sea and Rocky neck,
but I will not embark on
Ocean’s dark with a tide gone out.

We were close,
but never made it.
We touched,
but never made it.
We were friends and we
almost made it.
You were going to teach
the blind, and I was going
to be a poet.

-Friends

Arcadia still lives,
hold fast all hearts.
Love is never lost,
that is ever love.
Endless is hope;
Endless is faith;
Endless is love.

and other Poems

Through quiet, melancholic free verse and a voice shaped by wisdom, Robert Brooks’ poems are like personal letters, inviting you into a space of shared emotion, offering gentle melancholy, thoughtful introspection, and the comfort of knowing you’re not alone.

More than a poetry collection, Robert Brooks’ Arcadia and other Poems is an artifact. Bound in hardcover, hand-lettered, and printed on stationery-quality paper, it contains twenty-two poems with original artwork that reflects each poem’s setting and tone. Its subjects include meditations on unrequited love and suggestions for living a good life.
